Attila Lancz: „All the Well-Grounded Recommendations of the Venice Commission”
The Government of Iveta Radičová made commitments in its Manifesto of July 2010 to amend the intensively disputed Law on the State Language. They intended to implement the task by „keeping the 2006 status quo” and by „consistent fulfillment of international commitments” taken by the Slovak Republic. The Venice Commission, in its Opinion released shortly after the Manifesto, made recommendations that, if respected, could have helped the Government to fulfill its own commitments made in the Manifesto. However, this did not happen. What more, the government coalition declared a significant part of the Opinion – with some exaggeration – „unrealistic” and henceforth fully ignored it.
